University of Oxford

I'm Ben, a PhD student in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford, based at the Oxford Robotics Institute. I'm supervised by Oiwi Parker Jones and Ingmar Posner, as part of the Parker Jones Neural Processing Lab (PNPL) and the Applied AI Lab (A2I).

Previously, I completed an MSc in Mathematical Modelling & Scientific Computing at Oxford, and a dual undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering (Western University) and Business Administration (Ivey Business School) in Canada.

Research

My work centers on decoding speech directly from noninvasive recordings of brain activity. In particular, I develop biologically-grounded generative models to synthesize realistic neural data which helps speech BCIs generalize even when real neural data is expensive and scarce.

In the past, I've also dabbled in the world of differentially private clinical data generation and efficient vision-language models (VLMs) for self-driving cars.

Slides from my oral presentations can be found here.
